Therapeutic applications
in virtual worlds
Updated 6/22/2018
Social VR (virtual worlds) is increasingly being used to create therapeutic or helpful environments in connection with psychological problems.   Here I have collected some publicly available examples to suggest the possibilities.

                                          The Virtual Reality Medical Center

VRMC currently uses virtual reality exposure therapy (3-dimensional computer simulation) in combination with physiological monitoring and feedback to treat panic and anxiety disorders. These conditions include specific phobias such as fear of flyingfear of driving, fear of heightsfear of public speakingfear of thunderstorms,  claustrophobiaagoraphobiaarachnophobiasocial phobiapanic disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder due to motor vehicle accidents. General stress management and relaxation skills are taught for stress-related disorders

                                          Wikipedia

Virtual reality therapy (VRT), also known as virtual reality immersion therapy (VRIT), simulation for therapy (SFT), virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET), and computerized CBT (CCBT), is the use of virtual reality technology for psychological or occupational therapy. Patients receiving virtual reality therapy navigate through digitally created environments and complete specially designed tasks often tailored to treat a specific ailment. Technology can range from a simple PC and keyboard setup, to a modern virtual reality headset. It is widely used as an alternative form of exposure therapy, in which patients interact with harmless virtual representations of traumatic stimuli in order to reduce fear responses. It has proven to be especially effective at treating PTSD. Virtual reality therapy has also been used to help stroke patients regain muscle control, to treat other disorders such as body dysmorphia, and to improve social skills in those diagnosed with autism.

                                                      2. Virtual reality therapy (VRT) can cure traumatic stress and anxiety in people. During the treatment, patients repeatedly see simulated environments to overcome difficulties of the past. This therapy has complex procedures, which is why only skilled doctors can perform it.
