2017 EDU: PROMO: Preparing a presentation in a virtual world. How to use the web

Preparing a presentation in a virtual world.
How to use the web.
Suggestions on how to prepare and deliver a presentation in a virtual world, using web posters arranged on web-walks as organizational method.
Web-walks showing overview

  • Forget yourself.  Think from the view point in your audience.
  • What are the three main questions you want to answer for your audience?
  • You may want to start by asking these questions.
  • That primes your audience to look for the answers.
  • The one question you need to answer for yourself:
  • Why does your audience care about the answers to these questions?
  • What sources will you use to help answer those questions.?
  • The sources probably are on the web if you write blog articles.
  • Or if you use the web a lot in your search of the literature.
  • Here is how to use a virtual world or web world to give the answers

Why I like a virtual world presentation

Web-walks showing overview
  • I set up web-walks with posters that show web pages.
  • The walks carry a title and a cluster of posters on the subject.
  • I walk my avatar and stand in front of the poster I am talking about.
  • I can easily access any poster in response to questions.
  • People can easily find any poster they want to review.
  • I put short titles in floating text above the text.
  • People can take copies of the web-walks if they want.

Why I like to prepare a web-walk presentation

  • I use the posters as I would bullets in PowerPoint.
  • I gather the web pages as posters and arrange them as I please
  • I always have the sources at hand for review.
  • (Web posters offer a button to open the web page.)
  • I can rearrange as I like and get things arranged to suit me.
  • I can cluster and order as I please, then make the clusters into walks.
  • This plan probably works best for someone who publishes a blog, as I do.
  • The web-world Cybalounge supports building a web-walk there.
