2016 PROMO: The Power of Pre-suasion with Robert Cialdin

The Power of Pre-suasion with Robert Cialdin
The Power of Persuasion with Robert Cialdini, the godfather of influence. Cialdini’s latest research shows that the secret to persuasion doesn’t lie in the message itself, but in the key moment before that message is delivered. He explains that the best persuaders spend more time crafting what they do and say before making a request.

Cialdini calls this pre-suasion. In other words, to change minds most effectively, a pre-suader must change initial “states of mind.”

How would you use this information to market virtual worlds?

In a blog or social media, the first thing people see is the picture, video, title, or opening sentence, depending on the available format.  What state of mind do you want to induce? Some states that might get people to try virtual worlds are:
  • Curiosity
  • Adventurousness
  • Thoughts of a particular activity (such as sailing or running a model train)
  • Thoughts of interacting with people in a particular way (such as discussing a book).
You probably have already thought of a particular instance of a state you would like to induce and can now think of how to do that in a
You are probably in several communities in virtual worlds.  You might like to attract new people into these communities. You may already be thinking of how you could persuade or pre-suade people to join one of your virtual world communities.
-
You would start by showing new people what you and your friends do in the community. That calls for a video or a series of stills.  You probably already have a Google community and a Facebook group for connecting to community members outside of the grid.  That is a good start.  It shows what people do in your community.  If you have outworlders coming to those outlets, you are already pre-selling them.  Especially when you show people having fun.
-
If you want to draw more people to your communities, look for other groups and communities with similar interests, maybe similar interests in the "real" world.
