2016 HG PEOPLE: Every grid needs a G+ commuity: G+ communities grow in the Hypergrid

Every grid needs a G+ community.
G+ communities grow in the Hypergrid
Many grids on the hypergrid have G+ communities.  A grid community serves as a marketing tool and can keep grid users informed about what is happening or is going to happen on the the grid.  It helps build communities in the grid.  It provides a valuable communication route when the grid is unexpectedly down.  It provides a convenient way to make promotional content available to bloggers and potential customers.

    • Q: What happened to the Friday event notices you were carrying twice a month?
    • A: They weren't drawing enough interest and alternative sources came online.  I am now running a short  form daily near the top of this blog. A more comprehensive collection is in  Selby's daily news collection.

Why would you want a G+ community rather than forums?

          • Don't think either/or.  Think both. It is only a matter of copy/paste
          • A G+ community is open to the public.  Anyone can read it.
          • People who are not grid users can read it and post questions.
          • People can share posts with their profile stream or with other groups.
          • Bloggers can easily find and copy promotional content from community posts.
          • Bloggers and others can get email notices of new posts to the community.
          • Yes, people can probably do most of that from the forums.  But will they?

Should a grid G+ community be open to the public for joining?

          • Probably yes.  Invitation join will turn away lots of people.
          • Open join is more welcoming.

How event promoters can use G+ communities

          • Post about upcoming events.
          • Spread those posts to bigger communities like OpenSim Virtual
          • Store owners: remember that you can have events, too.

How a blogger can use G+ communities to find content

          • Join and turn on notices for some G+ communities that fit your themes.
          • When you see posts with content you may want, send them to your G+ stream.
          • I usually send the posts to Public, so anyone following my stream can see them.
          • Later I review my G+ stream and pick up items I may want to use.
          • My G+ stream also acts as a summary of the things I follow, so others may use it.
