2012 HELP: IPRIGHTS: The Catch 22 of Linden Lab's new Terms of Service

The Catch 22 of Linden Lab's new Terms of Service
-
Intellectual property rights and how the Terms of Service trap them.
-
-
  • You are a content creator
  • You actually read the terms of service
  • You see that accepting the TOS gives LL a license to sell your creations
  • Without paying you, without crediting you, without even telling you
  • You don't like that
  • You don't accept the TOS
  • -
  • You want to delete your creations and close your account
  • But you can't delete your things
  • Not without going inworld
  • Not without accepting the TOS
  • Not without giving LL a license to sell your creations
  • Catch 22
  • The TOS takes effect immediately, when you accept it
  • That TOS rule comes from a previous change in the TOS
  • The TOS used to have a 30 day delay before it took effect
  • And the new TOS seems to apply retroactively to existing content
